Dr. James Burden is originally from Anderson, South Carolina. He completed his undergraduate studies at Erskine College in Due West, SC, and his medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC, and his glaucoma fellowship training at the University of Iowa. He served for 23 years in the military including a tour as a Squadron Commander at the United States Air Force Academy. Dr. Burden completed his military service as the Chairman of the Department of Surgery and the Director of the Glaucoma Service at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, TX.
Dr. Burden’s goal is to work in partnership with his patients to achieve and maintain their best vision. He specializes in medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma, cataract surgery and comprehensive ophthalmology. He enjoys establishing long-term relationships with his patients and offering them a wide range of treatment options tailored to their specific needs and desires. In addition to medical control of glaucoma, he offers his patients laser surgical options to decrease eye pressure as well as surgical options including trabeculectomy, tube drainage device placement and microincision glaucoma surgical procedures.
Dr. Burden is married and has two children. His wife is from Germany and is a realtor in Colorado Springs. His son attends CU Boulder, majoring in physics. His daughter is in elementary school and is a figure skater. Dr. Burden has lived or worked in five states and five countries and he is happy to call Colorado Springs his home where he and his family can enjoy outdoor activities including cycling, hiking and skiing.
