Dr. Jared Matthews joined Skyline Vision in 2017. His clinical interests include laser vision correction, laser cataract surgery, cornea transplantation, complex cataract surgery and infectious and inflammatory corneal disease.
Dr. Matthews graduated with a bachelor of arts degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Oklahoma. He earned his medical degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, then completed a fellowship in ophthalmic pathology at the nation’s number-one ranked eye hospital: Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. He next completed a transitional year internship at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center in Denver, Colorado, followed by a residency at the Yale University Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science. He concluded training by returning to Bascom Palmer Eye Institute for a fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery under the guidance of Terrence O’Brien, MD, and Ellen Koo, MD.
During his ophthalmic pathology fellowship, Dr. Matthews became involved in research related to the microscopic features and underlying mechanisms of rare and serious eye diseases, including ocular surface tumors and devastating infections of the eye. He has published on these topics in scientific journals such as Ophthalmology and Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science.
Dr. Matthews furthered his research interests during cornea and refractive surgery fellowship by investigating methods to improve the safety and efficiency of laser cataract surgery. He has given award-winning presentations on this topic at national meetings of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Matthews holds memberships in the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is also a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society.
In his spare time, Dr. Matthews enjoys skiing, hiking, scuba diving, live music and travel. He’s an avid movie watcher and sports fan and particularly enjoys following his home state Oklahoma Sooners and Oklahoma City Thunder. He doesn’t have an NFL team, but he’s open to adopting the Denver Broncos.
